Ciara did a similar concept of role reversal and tackled gender inequality BEFORE Beyonce.

Ciara's video about this concept saw her dressing like a boy and her video was shot in black and white. Beyonce's unique and original take on the same concept was to dress up as a man and shoot her video in black & white.

Ciara announced her 3 disc conceptual album in the first half of the year based on three genres/styles of music she reprsents. Beyonce's album is also a conceptual album based on her two alter egos.

Give credit where credit is due.

I say it's not original because as soon as I realized what the concept was,I was reminded of a song that r&b singer Joe (the guy who sang "All the Things Your Man Won't Do") released years ago. The song was called "What if a Woman". Same EXACT concept,only Joe's version was more cut and dry,not as absrtact as Beyonce's and ofcourse Joe's was sung from a male perspective. When I first heard the songs I thought they were garbage, but the video of If I were a Boy made me pay attention to the lyrics and the acting really made me think. I agree that her concept is great.

This video is good at telling the story which is what most songs that have meaning should have(If the right budget right that is).

She basically plays her guy and what he's like as male copper and shows all the flaws and flirty ways he has with his female partner/co-worker.

I must give props to the concept of a being a copper cus thats what really makes the video work. The role reversal thing works easier with the plot put together.

Also big up the original singer BC Jean her rocky edge is hot with this song, however as a more R&B, Soulful listener i prefer Beyonce JUST(very narrowly)!!!

Ciara has nothing to do with Beyonces thought process of the song, she just fell in love with the track when she heard BC Jean demo of it and i credit Beyonce for not changing up the song. All the core elements are in and basically Bee put in better riffs.

The song and the video have nothing similar to the ciara like a boy. Only the black and white and thats all.
