New Amerie Promo Shot

Peep Amerie looking fly, as usual, in this new promo pic. The latest addition to the Def Jam roster is currently working on the follow-up to her 'Because I Love It' LP, with a bevy of hit-makers including Bryan Michael Cox and Ne-Yo.

Former Fugees star Pras performed his 1998 hit 'Ghetto Superstar' at the AFI Awards in honor of Warren Beatty - who starred in the film the song was the title track to 'Bulworth'. In somewhat of an odd pairing, R&B singer Amerie joined him onstage to perform the song. Though her rendition added a fresh slant to the track, I'm not so sure I was actually feeling it; I can't put my finger on what was 'off' about it, other than the fact that something was. Where the hell was Mya (the original feature artist), anyway?

Official: Amerie Signs With Def JamThat Grape Juice reported back in Febraury that Amerie was on the verge of signing with Def Jam. According to Contact Music, the singer's move to the LA Reid headed label, which is the home of Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Ne-Yo etc, became finalized recently. Check out the report below:

Singer AMERIE is set to undergo a career overhaul - after signing a deal with the record label which turned RIHANNA into an international superstar.

The 1 Thing hitmaker has parted ways with Columbia Records and inked a deal with Def Jam, the company that secured the massive track Umbrella for Rihanna last year (07), catapulting her to global fame.
And Amerie, who has previously released two albums to moderate success, is hoping the new contract with Def Jam will help boost her career to even greater heights.

A source tells Britain's Daily Star newspaper, "Amerie's first two albums did well, but she's ready to step it up a gear now.

"She was offered a deal too good to turn down and the promise to build upon her reputation for classy and sexy R&B."

On a personal note, as a supporter of real talent, I am real pleased for Amerie and optimistic about what the future holds for her. If Def Jam can do what they've done with Rihanna for the much more talented Amerie (IMO), then she really may be in with a chance of hitting it BIG.

Amerie At Converse One Star Party Amerie At Converse One Star Party
R&B songstress Amerie was snapped at the Converse One Star after party for the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. Looks like someone is flaunting her inner-Diva. She looks great.

In other Amerie news, the singer confirmed that she is working on her new album, the follow-up to last year's 'Because I Love It'. reliable word has it that she's signed to a new (major) label. I'm definitely anticipating her new material; 'Because I Love It' still receives regular play from me.

Amerie At Maxim Hot 100 Party R&B singer Amerie was snapped at the Maxim Hot 100 party earlier this week rocking a new look. Though her natural beauty is hard to deny, something looks kinda off with her latest look - I can't put my finger on what it is though.

Amerie Officially Done With Columbia After months of speculation, it appears that R&B songstress Amerie has severed ties with Columbia Records, following the removal of her name from the labels roster. The singer's third studio album 'Because I Love It', though critically acclaimed and a hit in Europe, did not receive a Stateside release. Instead, a succession of proposed release dates, came and went without yielding the album. Reliable sources confirm that the singer is currently locked in talks LA Reid's Def Jam. {Source}

Here's hoping she signs with a new label ASAP. It's criminal that 'Because I Love It' wasn't given a chance to be heard by the masses. Truly a great record.

Any thoughts?

New Amerie Photo ShootCheck out these edgy new promotional pics of Amerie. Shot by noted photographer Derek Blanks (the same man behind the 'Alter Ego' shoot from earlier this month), the 'Take Control' singer looks great. It'd be even better, though, to have some news on her current label / project status. Here's hoping things work out for this criminally underrated talent (I still have 'Because I Love It' in heavy rotation).

Amerie Headed To Island Def Jam? According to our friends over at Rap-Up.com, singer Amerie may be set the likes of Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey over at Island Def Jam. Check out their report below:

Late last year, EW.com reported that Amerie had been dropped from her label Columbia Records. There have been a few signs that lead us to believe that the R&B singer is in the process of signing or has already signed a new deal with Island Def Jam. Amerie’s third album Because I Love It was never released in the U.S.

For one, Amerie appeared on Chingy’s first single, “Fly Like Me.” Chingy is signed to Def Jam. Last month, Amerie appeared at the birthday party for Island Def Jam executive VP of A&R Karen Kwak. And just last night, she showed up to the Island Def Jam Grammy after party toasting IDJ chairman L.A. Reid. She was a no-show at the Sony BMG after party, home to Columbia Records.

Could Amerie be making the move to Island Def Jam? It’s only speculation at this point, but all signs point in that direction.

I'm really hoping this is true, because she's too good of talent to be overlooked and treated in the way she has been by her current label. Prior to her most recent effort 'Because I Love It', I wasn't really on the Amerie bandwagon, but the LP converted me, for real. With Def Jam's proven track record of pulling out all the stops for their artists (see: Rihanna, Mariah etc), this would really be a good look for Amerie.

Rapper Chnigy, along with Amerie, stopped by 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' earlier this week to perform their current single 'Fly Like Me'. I liked the performance, although Amerie's vocals seemed kinda strained at times. Anyway, Chingy's latest album, 'Hate It Or Love It' - from which 'Fly Like Me' is the first single - is out now.

*The Chingy interview will be posted at the top of next week*

Although Amerie's third album 'Because I Love It' has seen it's release here in Europe several months ago and spawned 2 top 10 singles, fans in the US have yet to get their hands on the album (legally, that is).

Things, however, seem to be on the up for the 'Take Control' singer. Word has it that her label in the US, Sony BMG, are working overtime -behind the scenes - to make sure the album is a success. Yet the fact that much of it is available online has meant that instead of releasing the European version in the US, select tracks from it will be kept and newer recorded tracks will be added. It has been said that Amerie will be heading into the studio with Pharrell of the Neptunes shortly.

Meanwhile, 'Crush' is still on-course for release here in the UK early next year. The video has been shot already and was directed by Scott Franklin.

Amerie fans: Which tracks would you keep on the US version?

In a recent interview with popular UK urban magazine RWD, Amerie spoke candidly on her current label situation/frustrations. Check out the extract below {Thanks Adrian}:
How has your label treated you?
Er, you probably don’t even want to ask me that right now. That’s how I feel abut it. I personally love some of the people that work here in the UK; my publicist Shoshanna and Simon... but I really don’t want to talk about it cos I want to keep it all positive, you feel me?

Well, it seems the album didn’t really perform as well as it should have?
Cos they’re not pushing it like they should.

Why aren’t they?
We want to release Crush, but they feel there’s a lot going on. This is my thing; I’m an artist and this is not rocket science. Take Control was going good, so we knew we had to schedule the video for Gotta Work. But you need money to do a video, and by the time we got it cleared, it was late. They didn’t feel like that, but anybody with half a brain could see it was late. So then Gotta Work was going up, but it peaked and rapidly started coming down, so we knew we needed to do Crush. They said ‘Wait.’ I love the business and I studied the business and I told them we needed to do the other video, because you need to have another single when your other track is peaking. They’re talking about doing it next year, but I’m not doing it next year! So I don’t know what to tell you. I get that everyone’s filled with good intentions, but the road to perdition is filled with good intentions. There should have been no gaps.
I'm kinda surprised (yet pleased) she was so open about the whole thing. I guess, one can only be dragged through the dirt for so long. It's a shame too as 'Because I Love It' is a really solid record - one of my favourites from this year.

Chingy premiered the video for his new single 'Fly Like Me' on BET's Access Granted a few hours ago. The vid is pretty much standard fare and nothing out of ordinary - serves it's purpose, I guess. Amerie, who is featured on the song's hook, looks near-flawless; her label need to hurry up and drop her album in the US already. Anyway, 'Fly Like Me' is the first single to be lifted from Chingy's brand new LP 'Hate It Or Love It' which will be released on December 18th.

With Amerie set to release 'Crush' as the third single from her 'Because I Love It' album, new information on the release has surfaced. Those familiar with the album version of the track, will notice that it's not the same version used for the video.

This (new) version of the track is indeed the original version of the song. Produced by Johnny Douglas, clearance/legal issues prevented its placement on the album, however it's set to be used for the video. I've long been a fan of the song and like this version just as much as the first.

Though Amerie's third album, 'Because I Love It' has been a moderate success over here in Europe - spawning two UK top 10 singles, the CD's US release seems to be in jeopardy. Following a number of push-backs, the CD was re-scheduled for Stateside release in 'Summer 2007 ', yet it's status now reads 'TBD' (to be decided). Sources are claiming that the 'One Thing' singer will soon be (or may have already been) dropped by her US label.

I felt the album was very solid and it's a shame that her US label don't know what to with it. Label aside, the American market doesn't seem to warm to Amerie (just like Kelis). Still, things continue to be on the up for her across the pond in Europe; both 'Take Control' and 'Gotta Work' did well on the charts and she is prepping the release of her third single 'Crush' (the album's best track IMO).

Why can't Amerie crack the US market?

Continuing her promo trip through the UK, Amerie performed her latest single 'Gotta Work' on daytime show GMTV. Though better than the 'T4 On the Beach' performance from a few days back, something was still not there in the performance. Still it's good to see the severely underrated Amerie get her props over here - the song is slated to debut in the top 10 when released next week. Interestingly, the single will go head to head with Beyonce's 'Green Light' which also sees it's official release next week. {Thanks Adrian}

R&B star Amerie hit the UK this past week to start promo for her latest European single 'Gotta Work'. This performance took place during the 'T4 on the Beach' festival in Weston-Super Mare yesterday (July 22nd). I liked the performance; her vocals were really good and the crowd were hyped throughout. Having said that, I felt something was kinda lacking. Unlike most her other performances, Amerie didn't really 'work' the stage and was confined to more or less one spot. In other Amerie news, her third album 'Because I Love It' - out now in Europe - will see its Stateside release on August 21st.

It has been confirmed that 'That's What U R' will serve as the first official US single from Amerie's new album 'Because I Love It'. Current single 'Gotta Work' will be for the European market only. 'Because I Love It' - the singer's third album - will see its US release this summer; the CD is out now in Europe and other territories.

Though 'That's What U R' isn't the best track on Amerie's new album, I'm liking the fact it was chosen as a single. It doesn't sound like a rehash of her biggest hit to date 'One Thing' - whilst 'Gotta Work' arguably does. I'm hoping the song gives her the recognition she deserves; she's a star over here in Europe, yet she struggles to crack the US.

Amerie's debuted her newest single 'Gotta Work' yesterday. Scott Franklin - who also directed the vid for her last single 'Take Control' -directed the video. With a simple concept and great choreography, Amerie really delivered with this one. I'm still not entirely sure about the single choice, but it's an excellent video nonetheless.

The second single from Amerie's latest album has been confirmed as 'Gotta Work'. It's being reported that Scott Franklin, who directed the singer's last video 'Take Control', will also work on this. Amerie, 29, released her third album, 'Because I Love It', in Europe this past May; the album is scheduled for a Stateside release in the summer.

Though 'Gotta Work' is a good track, I would have preferred her label go with one of the album's better cuts such as 'Make Me Believe' or 'Crush'. Either way, I'm hoping the video is better than the extra confusing 'Take Control' vid.

Are you feeling the single choice?
