Janet At Alexander McQueen LaunchTaking a break from tour rehearsal, Janet Jackson made an appearance at the flagship store launch of Alexander McQueen Boutique in Los Angeles yesterday. Different is definitely the word for this ensemble, but I must say Ms. Jackson did pull it off rather well.

Janet Jackson - 'Can't Be Good' (Red Rat Remix) It would appear Janet Jackson's stalled 'Discipline' project is set to be given a renewed lease of life. There are murmurings that this remix of album cut (and supposed new single) 'Can't Be Good', courtesy of Jamaican star Red Rat, will feature on a re-packaged version of the LP.

About the track...hmm...it's ok, I guess. Considering I'm not at all a big fan of the original, it's hardly surprising that this doesn't really move me. If there is truth to the talk of re-release, I say drop a completely new/unheard cut, followed by what the masses seem to be liking most - 'LUV' and/or '2Nite'. Though, by no means a masterpiece, 'Discipline' does have a lot of 'hit single' potential; potential that if wasted would be real unfortunate.

Hit or Miss?

Pop superstar Janet Jackson gave her first performance since falling ill back in March yesterday at the United America Concert at Del Mar Beach. Ne-Yo, Snoop Dogg, Jordin Sparks and others, also performed at the show which was held in support of the US troops. NBC will air the full show on June 1st. In the meanwhile, check out Janet's performance of LUV from her set below:

A better view:

Not the best video quality, but still a good indicator as to what to expect from her upcoming live performances. She was nailing that choreography. This needs to be a single at some point.

Janet At The GLAAD Media AwardsPop superstar Janet Jackson was honored at the 19th Annual GLAAD Media Awards which took place at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre this past Saturday. Jackson, seen below sharing a kiss with Ellen Degeneres, was honored with the Vanguard Award.

In other Janet news, there are mounting murmurings about a possible performance on Dancing With The Stars in May. Here's hoping there's some truth to it and that promotion for 'Discipline' picks up soon.

Janet Tour to Kick Off September 11th In news that will, no doubt, please Janet Jackson's army of fans, the Pop superstar has confirmed to E! Online that her much-anticipated world tour will start on September 11th. According to the 'Feedback' singer, promotion for the her album 'Discipline' is on-going, with tour rehearsal commencing in a months time. {Source}

While it's great to see Janet pressing on with promotion and the tour, I sure as hell hope that Def Jam/her people have some plan in place to help shift some more units of the record. After all, healthy album sales, for the most part, equal good ticket sales.

Will you be checking for Janet's tour?

Janet Jackson Readies New SingleAfter halting promotion for her latest LP 'Discipline' due to illness, Janet Jackson is set to release the next single from the set 'Can't Be Good'. Unlike previous single LUV which was only released to select formats on radio, 'Can't Be Good' has a tentative radio ad date of June 9th - impacting all formats. {Source}

Whoever made the call for this must be smoking that good stuff, as this is a recipe for disaster IMO. With an album, Janet's most promising in years, currently in free-fall on the charts, it's hard to see the logic in releasing the most adult contemporary track on the record and hoping for a hit. Granted I'm not a fan of serving any old rubbish to radio in order to enjoy chart success, 'Discipline' genuinely possesses some surefire hits i.e. 'LUV', 'The One', '2 Nite', as well as the title track.

In any case, with several sources confirming that Def Jam are looking to refocus their efforts on promoting her upcoming tour as a means of selling the album, I'm hopeful that things begin to pick up soon.

Any thoughts?

Janet Jackson Resurfaces Pop superstar Janet Jackson was snapped arriving in Japan early this morning. The singer is over there for 3 days to promote her current album 'Discipline', which debuted at # 1 in the US upon its release back in February. It's one of the few times Janet has been seen since recovering from a serious bout of the Flu, which halted the US promotion of the record. Upon the completion of this stop, it's expected that full blown promotion for her anticipated tour will commence.

Janet Jackson - 'Feedback' (Remix) (ft. JD, Ciara, Fabolous & Busta Rhymes) Check out this newly christened Official remix of Janet's 'Feedback'. This version features verses from Jermaine Dupri, Busta Rhymes, Ciara and Fabolous. It's nearing four months since the debut of the original and I still have it in heavy rotation. This remix is pretty solid too.

The Best You Never Heard: Janet, Diddy, Craig David & Keisha White With the Easter break etc, there has been a succession of 'slow news days' as of late. So I thought now would be a good time to introduce a new site feature I've had in mind for a while now. Set to be a once weekly feature, 'The Best You Never Heard' will showcase great songs that aren't known (as much as they should be) to the masses. This week's edition features Diddy, Janet Jackson, Craig David and Keisha White...
-----------------------------------------------

Diddy - Special Feeling (ft. Mika)

Lifted from Diddy's 2006 effort 'Press Play', this uptempo 80's throwback cut is perhaps the best track I've heard from him as an artist. Not even Diddy's lacklustre flow can take away from this top notch production.

Listen: Special Feeling

-----------------------------------------------

Janet Jackson - R&B Junkie

Often overlooked due to the now-infamous 'wardrobe malfunction', Janet Jackson's 2004 LP 'Damita Jo' is arguably one of her most solid efforts to date. 'R&B Junkie' is undoubtedly one of the set's standout tracks. A funky R&B/Pop fusion, the track could easily have been a single then or even now. Good stuff.

Listen: R&B Junkie

-----------------------------------------------

Craig David - Take 'Em Off

UK star Craig David is oft criticized by the UK industry for for "selling out" to the US sound, hence his current predicament (struggling on the charts). I actually have no problem with Craig's embrace of the US sound, considering it yielded the fantastic 'Take 'Em Off'. The Underdogs produced song, which was in heavy rotation on UK urban radio in 2005, sounds similar to Marques Houston's 'Naked'...just a whole lot better.

-----------------------------------------------

Keisha White - The Weakness In Me

British R&B songstress Keisha White served up her best effort yet back in 2006 with her cover of Joan Armatrading's 'The Weakness In Me'. Sung beautifully, it's a shame the track didn't garner the attention it truly deserved.

Listen: The Weakness In Me

For some reason unbeknown to me, Khia is still running her mouth about the Janet Jackson 'So Excited' fiasco (I call it that, only because she's making it into one). According to the self-appointed 'Thug Misses', "Janet's career will never recover" for how she 'done her', adding that "she'll never be Mariah".

Yes, the song should have been the first single. It wasn't, so she needs to get over it. She's only making herself look more pathetic with every rant she makes. SMH...

Mariah Replaces Janet On SNLDue to being struck down with the Flu, Janet Jackson has been forced to cancel her scheduled performance on Saturday Night Live this week (March 15th). In her place will be Def Jam label-mate Mariah Carey, who will give the first televised live performance of 'Touch My Body', as well as 'Migrate' from her forthcoming 'E=MC²' album.
{Source 1} {Source 2}

Though word has it Janet will now be hosting the show and performing in May, I can't help but be left with a bit of salty taste in my mouth. Not so much because Mariah is performing so early (after all 'Touch My Body is #16 on the Hot 100 this week), but - put simply - Janet needs all the exposure she can get. Yes, 'Discipline' is holding steady at #3 on the Billboard 200, but it's evident that her sales need to be consistent for the album not to suffer the same fate as the two that preceded it (flops, basically). So 'replacing' her with Mariah - who people will easily compare her to - is a strange move on the part of whoever made the call. Anyway, enough of my ranting; on the plus side, come Saturday we'll have new Mimi performances. In the meanwhile, check out this remix of Janet's 'LUV' with Mariah's 'Touch My Body'. It actually blends well:

Ciara & Janet To Shoot 'Feedback' (Remix) Video? Word has it that Pop superstar Janet Jackson will be joining forces with Ciara for the video for the 'Feedback' remix. Said to be set for shooting next week, the news comes amid 'Feedback's' resurgence on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; The song jumped a whopping 35 places this week from #54-#19. Def Jam are also re-sending the track out to radio outlets.

Not heard the 'Feedback' remix (ft. Ciara) yet? Click here to listen

For some reason, unbeknown to me, a lot of Janet and Ciara fans seem to dislike one another and won't be checking for this. I know, as for me, I'm definitely looking forward to what the ladies will be serving up, should this prove legit. Known for their position as 'entertainers' as opposed to (for) their vocal prowess, combining the two would be big.

Janet Jackson premiered the video for her latest single 'Rock With U' on BET's Access Granted just a few hours ago. Directed by Saam (who also was at the directorial helm of the 'Feedback' clip), the video is awesome. The simple concept, mixed with innovative choreography makes for the vid to stand as one of Janet's best in a long while. Whilst I'm still awaiting a vid for 'LUV', I can see this doing well over here in Europe.

In other Janet news, 'Feedback' has rocketed from #54-#19 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart - making it it Janet's first top 20 hit on the chart since 'Someone To Call My Lover'. Having - a great comeback single.

Billboard: Janet is #1
After a seven year absence from the top spot, Pop superstar Janet Jackson has hit number 1 with her latest effort 'Discipline', according to Billboard. The set, which sold through 181,00 copies in its first week, is the first of the singer's albums to reach the the coveted position on the Billboard 200 since 2001's 'All For You'. Janet's nearest competition was in the form of Erykah Badu's 'New Amerykah' which bowed at number 2, shifting 124, 000 copies. 'Discipline' is Jackson's 6th number one LP. {Source}

I'm sure much ado will be made about Janet's numbers, but the fact that 'Discipline', give or take, is number 1 will be a PR dream come true. In all fairness to her, much of the promo (including MTV) all started when the album was released, so I guess the numbers reflect that. Word has it 'longevity' is the plan with this record, so I'm guessing Island Def Jam are looking to stretch the album 'Fergie-style'.

I've finally gotten my review copy from Island Def Jam UK (of course, I haven't heard the album already...lol), so expect a review of 'Discipline' before the week's out.

With her latest assault on the charts 'Discipline' now sitting comfortably at #1, Janet Jackson continues along the promo trail in support of the project, this time stopping by Jimmy Kimmel Live. The interview, which aired yesterday, saw Janet speak about the new album, her family and career, as well as chipping in on the running gag about Jimmy (the host) and Ben Affleck.

Pop superstar Janet Jackson continues her promo blitz for 'Discipline' - her 10th studio album, this time making an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres Show this morning. Check out the interview and performance of 'Feedback' after it:

As usual, she nailed the performance. I wasn't so keen on the interview, though; I don't understand why some interviewers insist on asking the same things over and over. Anyway, in other Janet news, the BET Access Granted for her new video 'Rock With U' will be airing next week Wednesday (March 5th).

During Janet's set on Good Morning America yesterday, she performed her new single 'Rock With U'. The perofrmance didn't air on the telecast, but wascaptured in its entirety by an audience member uploaded to the official GMA site. The choreography was overly on-point; this performance really has me liking the song a little more.

After a seemingly slow start, Janet Jackson's promotional campaign for her new album 'Discipline (out now) is really underway - she's everywhere. The singer, 41, features on the cover of the latest issue of Ebony magazine; I must say, she's balancing her sexy and classy well in all of these covers/shoots, as of late.

Following her mini-concert on Good Morning America earlier today, Janet Jackson performed 'Feedback' at MTV's TRL (boy, does it feel weird, but good to say that). What can I say? Janet killed it. The energy levels had been cranked up from the GMA performance, crowd were hyped, the band were on-point, choreography, everything! Watching this back really has me feeling Janet can really make one of the biggest comebacks in recent times. Awesome.
