Jay-Z Responds To Foxy Brown & Teairra Marì Jay-Z has broken his silence on comments made him by both Foxy Brown and Teairra Marì:
“As far as Foxy or Teairra Marì, these are people that I have given chances to. It’s understandable that they would be upset, but you got to look at it from my point of view as well. I gave Teairra Marì the same shot I gave Rihanna. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.”

“You know that stuff is going to happen, eventually it’s going to happen. What I’m happy about is, that no matter what people say, no one has ever said that I am dishonest or that I have taken one dime from them . . . I’ve never cheated anyone out of a dime. No one’s ever said that, right?” {Source}
Kudos to Jay for not getting messy with his response. I guess he does have a point...

Teairra Marí To Rihanna: 'Keep My Name Out Your Mouth, Sweetie'

Teairra Marí recently spoke to KING magazine about former label-mate Rihanna's comments about her last year. Check out an excerpt from Marí's feature below:

Teairra took offense to some comments Rihanna made to Atlanta’s Peach magazine regarding her dismissal from the Roc. Rihanna said, “You have to be good to people. I could very easily say its all karma…”

“They asked her how she felt playing second fiddle to me, which I never felt [she was]. She had the number-one song in the country on Hot 100; I didn’t, so she couldn’t be playing second fiddle to me. When I heard that I was upset, like, ‘Why would she ever go there? Keep my name out your mouth, sweetie.” {Source}
Ouch. I can't say I disagree with her...

Teairra Marí Speaks Out On Jay-Z & MoreIn a recent interview with AllHipHop.com, former Princess of The Roc, Teairra Marí spoke out the current status of her relationship with one-time mentor Jay-Z:
AHHA: Is there still a relationship at all with Jay-Z?

Teairra Mari: There is no relationship there at all. I haven't heard from him since that time. I think I sent him a happy birthday message because his birthday is two days after mine, like two years ago and since then it's been nothing. And I don't want it to be – Actually, it's fine because I was a young girl. If you could come into a young girl’s life and then just throw her on the curb, you put this father presence on and then be like, “I’m done with it.” I don’t want a relationship like that.
Ouch. She seems a lil burned by the way things went down and rightfully so. Label or no label, it wasn't right the way her so-called 'father' dashed her to the side like that. Anyway, she also discussed her dislike of the direction of her first LP:
AHHA: With your first album, Roc-A-Fella Presents Teairra Mari, do you feel that project accurately depicted where you wanted you career to go and what you wanted your sound to be?

Teairra Mari: I was 17 and I had a parental advisory sticker on the album. I was totally against that. I was pre-instructed to do what I did. They wanted me to be that rebellious, young teenager. At the time I was going through a rebellious stage so I guess I could see it, but the curse words I didn’t totally understand it, like a cursing 17-year-old girl. I just did what I was told because I believed in those people.

I always did wonder, what right-minded label exec would have a 17 year old singing about 'do I need to tell a n***a how to touch me'(on 'Make A Girl Feel'}. Here's hoping Teairra's latest effort brings her the recognition she deserves.

Any thoughts?

Teairra Marí - 'Finding My Way Back' As Teairra Marí continues to prep her as yet untitled Interscope debut (due late 2008 / early 2009), a new track from the LP has surfaced. The mid-tempo ballad titled 'Finding My Way Back' sees the 20 year old lament on her continued return to a 'bad relationship'.

Though solid, the track seems to be lacking a certain 'something'. Vocally it's definitely a notch above her past efforts, however the production doesn't really evoke the grandeur that the song's vocals, subject matter etc call for. Still, I'm rooting to Teairra; she's deserving of a lot of success IMO.

Our good friend B. Scott recently caught up with R&B singer Teairra Marí. The 20 year old former protegee of Jay-Z discussed her severing ties with Def Jam/ Roc-A-Fella, Rihanna and, of course, her Interscope debut. Check it out:

Great interview. I'm personally rooting for Teairra because, IMO, she definitely was the more talented out of her and Rihanna. Here's hoping labels and the industry at large start pumping funds and huge marketing campaigns into the genuinely talented as opposed to those who 'learn on the job'. SMH...

Teairra Mari - 'No No No'Former 'Princess of The Roc' Teairra Mari is currently prepping her Interscope debut for a summer 2008 release. In the meanwhile, the album's first single 'No No No' has surfaced (via YBF). Though hardly groundbreaking, I'm liking this. The gritty hard-hitting production, as well Teairra's flow make for a real solid track; her runs toward the end really highlight her growth vocally. Good stuff.

Hit or Miss?

Ever since hearing about the 'amicable' split between Teairra Mari and Roc-A-Fella Records, I have been wondering where the Detroit singer has been. After having some success with hits 'Make A Girl Feel' and 'No Daddy' back in 2005, Mari kinda disappeared. When she debuted, Def Jam president Jay-Z touted her as the 'Princess of The Roc'; so many were surprised when the label quietly released her in October 2006 - especially since her sophomore album 'Second Round' was already completed. Since then, Mari has signed a deal with Interscope Records and is set to release her 2nd album in the summer. The first single from the set is scheduled to drop anytime from now.

Though many criticised Teairra's first album for being too sexually suggestive i.e. 'Make A Girl Feel' (she was 17 when it was released), I enjoyed the CD. Aside from the singles, tracks like the Darkchild produced 'Stay in Ya Lane' were hot. I'm hoping she does well this time around as there are less-talented artists out now who are selling.

Will you be checking for Teairra?
