Teedra Moses Speaks On Label BankruptcyFollowing the news of TVT Records bankruptcy back in February, many have been wondering about the status of R&B singer Teedra Moses - who was signed to the label. The critically acclaimed songstress has addressed her current situation in a recent interview with All Hip Hop Alternatives:
Then I’d have a situation where I’m not well promoted, and they really couldn’t facilitate that at the time. So it was a blessing. Part of me was like “Yeah!’’ and the other part was like “Dang!” But it is what it is.

AHHA: Before they went into bankruptcy, I’m sure you had a lot of meetings with them about the album and the release date. What reasons were they giving you about why the album had to keep getting pushed back?

Teedra: Our communication was just horrible. The person I was dealing with [from TVT] was Brian Leech. He was the A&R that came to the studio and listened to what you were doing. Through him I was able to communicate with the label.

I’m not the type of person that can easily sit in the midst of all the technical stuff. I try to stay away from all that so I can be creative and do what I do without the restraints of thinking about what [A&Rs] have to do. That’s why I have people around for those jobs.

So once Brian left, there was really no way to communicate with them as an artist. There was no music person there. There were a couple other A&Rs, but they used to be assistants. There was no music person to really communicate with that could understand the vision I had.

You have to have that person to translate the vision to the label. It was a hard situation because everything was in disarray, and after Brian left, everything just started to fall apart. There were a lot of people underneath Brian that left too, and it kinda fell apart, unfortunately.

AHHA: So are you a complete free agent at this point?

Teedra: Not exactly; I’m not off TVT yet, but it’s something I’m moving towards. It’s very, very near.

It's great to see that Teedra is moving forward. Like many, I've been eagerly awaiting the release of her sophomore effort 'The Young Lioness'. Here's hoping we're able to hear it soon.

Any thoughts?

Teedra Moses - TVT Records Files For BankruptcyNew York based independent record label TVT Records filed for Chapter 11 aka bankruptcy yesterday (February 18th). The label, home to artists such as Teedra Moses, Lil' Jon & The Eastside Boyz, Pitbull and Ying Yang Twins, have terminated the majority of their employees. It's unknown, at writing, whether the label's release schedule for this year will be affected. {Read more here}

I'm guessing this sheds some light on the slow-go of R&B songstress Teedra Moses' serially delayed album 'The Young Lioness'. If there is any justice, Teedra will get snapped up by another label - independent or a major - she's too talented to go unheard. 'Complex Simplicity' still rates as one my all-time favourite R&B albums.

R&B songstress Teedra Moses has announced that her long-awaited sophomore CD ‘The Young Lioness’ has been pushed back (again) to next year. In a move to, perhaps, ease the angst of fans eagerly awaiting the album, Teedra has also confirmed that she will release another mixtape before the year’s out. Check out her MySpace post:
hey yall. Just letting you know that my album is not coming out this year. It has been push to the top of next year. Not my decision but I ain't mad. It is what it is. I really am ready for yall to hear it though!!! Its funny, industry people think every artist hates their label, but in my case their wrong. I don't hate nobody. I just don't quite understand their logic. But don't cry for me Argentina. I'm soooo Goood!! I don't put my faith in a label my faith is in God, who reminds to have faith in myself and my team. God has a plan for me so no weapons formed against me will ever prosper. I'm starting to work on a Christmas mixed Tape. I know that sounds novel which ain't normally my angle, but I'mma put a sexy soulful twist on christmas... ya feel me!
TVT (Teedra’s label) really need to get it together. Its been two years or so since the CD was supposed to drop. If-when the album is released-they don’t promote it right, they would have done Teedra and her fans a serious injustice. I’m starting to think she’d be better off at another label.

R&B songstress Teedra Moses is readying her sophomore album 'The Young Lioness' for an August release. The long-awaited LP sees the critically-acclaimed Moses return to the music scene after what appeared to be a three year hiatus. Speaking to VIBE late last month, Moses said she spent her time out of the limelight writing for other artists including Mary J. Blige and Macy Gray. 'I'm not the kind of person who's just gonna put together an album in two months or two weeks. I like to present myself over a period of time' she added. Though no definite lead single has been chosen, Moses is rooting for a track called 'Love's Gonna Be' - which samples Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrel's 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough'.

I'm really anticipating Teedra's new CD. Her first, 'Complex Simplicity', was superb - with great tracks such as 'Backstroke', 'You Better Tell Her' and 'Be Your Girl'. Hopefully, this time around, she'll get the recognition she deserves.

Will you be checking for Teedra?
